Beneath the Surface

I found comfort

in no longer needing

to appear graceful

on the surface.

There was strength in

refusing to compromise

the connection

within my heart

for any reason —

even just a little.

It didn’t matter

how this life appeared

because there was

a deeper, truer

kind of grace

only those who had

dared to look beneath

the surface

could recognize.
