Continuing On July 17, 2018

Sometimes the only thing

I knew to do

was to keep going,

which undoubtedly meant

surrendering to the creative flow

of life.

And so there was the

painful dropping of pieces

I had held so carefully

and an understanding

I seemed to have with God

that I would sometimes

hold on a little longer,

push ahead,

lose my center,

and struggle to find any

resemblance of grace.

But I would always keep going.

Beneath the Surface

Reflections June 25, 2017

I found comfort

in no longer needing

to appear graceful

on the surface.

There was strength in

refusing to compromise

the connection

within my heart

for any reason —

even just a little.

It didn’t matter

how this life appeared

because there was

a deeper, truer

kind of grace

only those who had

dared to look beneath

the surface

could recognize.

Something Real

Quieting January 13, 2017

It happened subtly

at first.

Thoughts and ideas

and all those many

images and words

about how

we should be

and how

things had been

began to fade —

just enough

to let in

something unexpected —

an original thought,

a genuine expression,

a little breathing space —

a tender interaction

almost missed —

the serenity we felt

as we didn’t grasp.

Maybe it was us

who dared to

turn away

in search of

something real.
