Just Below the Surface

Laurie's Notes

I journeyed on

until I found

the me that was

most natural,

the one that didn’t

need to try so hard.

I found her within

my deepest heart.

And because she showed me

that I was strong,

I let go of her,

bravely making my way

back to the surface

of this life.

But I grieved

the deeper me

and settled

back down —

just below the surface —

where I found I had

never really left

her side.
