I set down my shield
from the pain of this life
in exchange for the raw beauty
I found within.
And in one moment,
I found enough strength
to carry me through
a lifetime.
Quiet Reflections and Prayers
I set down my shield
from the pain of this life
in exchange for the raw beauty
I found within.
And in one moment,
I found enough strength
to carry me through
a lifetime.
I continued on —
holding and honoring
and letting go
of all that appeared
until there was nothing
I couldn’t meet
with love
and rise above.
In my search for healing,
I found I could stand
in anything.
I found I could
remain connected
with my deepest heart,
even when the reflection I saw
didn’t match —
when holding it
tired my tireless spirit
and letting go wasn’t an option
just yet.
And there, in that holding,
I found I could
never be broken.
One day
I began to see
the natural beauty
hidden just beneath
the surface of this life.
And instead of trying
to sort it all out
at once,
I let go
a little more
into the mystery
and held on
ever so lightly
to each new moment
as it transformed itself
into the next
and love revealed herself
in pieces.
And so I held on,
watching for a sign
that this world
had not yet forgotten
the sound of its own
true voice.
And as I waited
beneath the noise
and distractions,
my heart let go
of one tiny prayer —
that it might
find its way
to another heart
that had run out of words
before we ran out of hope.
I found beauty
in the listening,
in the sinking down
and holding —
in the willingness
to let go
and witness the unfolding
of this life from within.
At first,
there appeared not to be
much beauty
in the pieces
of my heart.
I was learning to hold them,
you see —
learning to trust
that this same quiet prayer
is arranging the pieces
still.
I found peace
in the me that showed up
in each moment,
unconditionally —
to hold a space,
a prayer —
for whatever needed to be
loved into being.
I found my way
to the very center
of my heart.
And within the purity
of love
in that place,
I became
the quiet prayer
that had led me
to that moment
and continued on.
I found peace
in looking a little deeper —
through the stories
on the surface.
And though I couldn’t
quite explain
what I had found,
I saw that quiet space
in everything.
And I was changed
forever.
