I began to listen
a little more deeply
to silence,
to let go
of cluttered thoughts
a little more completely —
to turn around
and settle down
into the quiet space
within.
Quiet Reflections and Prayers
I began to listen
a little more deeply
to silence,
to let go
of cluttered thoughts
a little more completely —
to turn around
and settle down
into the quiet space
within.
I learned to find my way
to words waiting
just beneath the surface.
But I grew tired
of all the sorting
and tossing up
and laying down
of old things.
I have thrown it all back
and waited patiently
more times than I care
to remember.
Now I’m tired.
And so I will listen
to the silence instead.
In silent memory
of love
and every kind word
never spoken,
yet deeply felt,
I offer this prayer
to you
and to the world –
that we may heal
together.
Amen.
There were no words
to speak.
None were needed.
In fact, the slightest sound
served as a reminder
of all that had been
too much —
distractions from the purity
of the one continuous
silent prayer
of a life
transforming gently
into the quiet whispers
that had carried it
safely back
into that very moment
of reprieve.
I return
to this place,
unafraid to stand now
in the silence —
to wait for words,
not to explain or create,
but to pour out
all that is
already written
on our hearts.
— Laurie, Heart Space
Thank you
for safe spaces —
for gentle voices
can feel a little
out of place
in a noisy world
and grow most effectively
in silence.
Thank you
for all that has refused
to toughen up
or fit in —
for we could use
a few more
quiet prayers.
Amen.
I found life is rarely
how it seems
on the surface.
And so I learned
to listen
with my heart,
to paint with words —
to surrender
to silence
as each attempt faded
so sweetly back
into nothing.
I stopped trying
to analyze and explain.
I stopped trying
to fix.
I stopped to listen
and to trust
a little more deeply
in my heart.
When there is nothing
more to say,
when all I can do
is let go
and listen
to the silence,
I will wait —
knowing that you will
meet me in this place —
beyond the words.
Sometimes love calls out,
having seen the beauty
of her own true essence
beneath all things.
Look deeper! She shouts,
only to be pushed aside.
But she remembers
that her voice
is heard most clearly
in a whisper
from her own deepest heart.
And embracing her grief —
as a quiet prayer —
she waits.
