I began to listen
to the silence
and to the music
of life —
of notes and pauses —
finding refuge in
the silent spaces
and comfort in
words that flowed out
if I was patient
to wait my turn —
holding and letting go
ever so lightly —
in-between.
Quiet Reflections and Prayers
I began to listen
to the silence
and to the music
of life —
of notes and pauses —
finding refuge in
the silent spaces
and comfort in
words that flowed out
if I was patient
to wait my turn —
holding and letting go
ever so lightly —
in-between.
I began to listen
to life —
to show up
and listen
to what was around me,
perhaps as our ancestors
once listened —
before all the noise.
And so I began
to listen
a little more deeply —
not analyzing each sound,
but waiting for the music
to continue,
noticing my own part
within in it
and outside of it.
And I couldn’t imagine
it being any other way.
There was a quiet
holding and letting go —
the remembrance
of events now seen
as part of
the great mystery —
no longer needing
to figure out —
no longer grieving
what was given up —
not needing anything
to be different.
Just this.
Life continued to unfold
with all of its challenges
and pain
and beauty.
Questions like
Who am I
and the unshakeable
determination to keep
showing up
became more important
than any one insight
or set of
explanations —
pulling me each time
back a little more
into Self —
not deeper down
into thought,
but straight through
all if it
to its core —
where I sensed intuitively
and found great relief
in knowing
this as my center.
What a funny thing
to realize there was
really nothing
to piece together
or figure out
or search for
so deeply.
I only had to
to find courage
to stop all that trying.
It’s the stillness
I return to,
where thought arises
in the moment,
taking on a
deeper meaning
beyond thinking —
where each part flowes
into the next,
and I am whole.
— Laurie, What’s Right Here
I believe
in the power
of pure love
and transformation.
I choose to follow
the path
of my heart
and stand
in the fire
of my soul.
— Laurie, What’s Right Here
Finally there was
no more path —
except to turn around
and stand still
in my heart.
— Laurie, from earlier notes
In the calmest part
of my heart,
that which
in all the shattering
couldn’t be broken,
there is solace —
here.
— Laurie, What’s Right Here
There is a
quiet connection
in the stillness
of my heart —
a peace containing
all emotions
and yet only love.
