Holding

Daring to Be Still

Somewhere beyond

and in the middle

of all of this movement,

all of the noise,

is the me I thought

was lost.

And although who exactly

this is

escapes my understanding

in the usual way,

somehow it is

in the daring

to stand still here —

that I find her again.

— Laurie, What’s Right Here

Reflections

Also In My Heart

I found I could exist

in the world

and also in my heart —

participating fully

in daily life

without the need

or desire

to stay in

constant dialogue

about the story

on the surface —

choosing instead

to play a little

higher card,

to put these things

aside for a moment —

honoring and holding

a little space

for a deeper story

to be known.

From A Quiet Prayer

This Living Prayer

For the times

when there is nothing

left to do

but keep walking through,

when every word

we would try to say

couldn’t honor

the courage it takes

to just keep quiet

in our hearts

and keep walking,

when all attempts

to explain or sort

only seem

to make it worse —

for these times,

I offer this

living prayer.

Amen

Quieting

Underneath

And so I set off,

trying my best

to follow

the path of mind,

trying to fit

in a world

where every gap

seemed to be filled

with more distractions

from what I longed for

the most —

the forgotten magic,

the very thing

that made life

worth showing up for,

the spark —

the mystery of

who or what I really was,

the freedom to return

to a more natural me,

the one I had always been —

underneath.
